United States Mint 20 Dollar Double Eagle

Pure gold content - 30.087g
Dimensions - 34mm diameter x 2.41mm thick
Fineness - 900

The American Double Eagle has a face value of $20. It is 0.9675 troy-ounce of fine gold. Issued from 1908 - 1933, this $20 Double Eagle features the St Gaudens design. The Saint-Gaudens $20 Double Eagle is one of the most sought after gold coins on the market today. These gold pieces were produced by the U.S. Mint from 1907 to 1933. The coin is named after its designer, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful U.S. coins ever minted. The Saint-Gaudens $20 gold coin was the result of President Theodore Roosevelts desire to beautify U.S. coinage. President Roosevelt felt that Saint-Gaudens was the man who could help him do so. Saint-Gaudens eventually passed away before the designs were finalized to go into production. The coins high relief is said to have made the coin difficult to strike, and U.S. Mint chief engraver Charles Barber made some modifications to the design that allowed it to be struck with a single blow.
