The new 1/2 oz Krugerrand gold coin contains pure 916.7/1000 22 carat gold. Its red-tinted tone prevails from its 8.33% bronze component. The coin, which can be used as legal tender, represents an excellent purchase for investors and collectors alike. The Krugerrand gold coin is one of the oldest investment coins there is. It has, for this reason, become a well-known collector and investor item of choice. During the 1980s its sales went far beyond any other bullion coin. This sparked interest among other international Mints to release investment coins of their own. The Rand Refinery of South Africa first produced this coin in 1967 intending to promote local South African Gold. The Krugerrand Gold coin has thus been released in four different sizes.
