The UK Royal Mint introduced its majestic Queen's Beasts Collection in 2016 with the Lion of England and it was an immediate hit with the world's numismatists. The Queen's Beasts Series celebrates centuries of Royal heritage through beautifully designed images of the mythic creatures from the Monarchy's heraldry. Artist Jody Clark takes his inspiration from the 10 golden heraldic effigies that stood guard as Princess Elizabeth was crowned Queen at Westminster Abbey in 1953. Two unicorns were chosen as supporters of the Scottish Royal Arms towards the end of the 16th century. In 1603, when the crown passed to James VI of Scotland and he became James I of England, he chose to retain one of his Scottish Unicorns as a bearer of his Royal Arms alongside a crowned Lion of England. A fabulous unicorn adorned with collar and chain rears above the Lion Rampant coat of arms of Scotland.
