Austrian Mint 1/2 oz Vienna Philharmonic Gold Coin (2020)

The new 1/2 oz Philharmonic Gold Coin is composed of 1/2 troy ounce of pure .9999 24 carat gold. With a face value of 50 euros, this coin is regarded as one of the most popular amongst investors and collectors worldwide. Designed by the Austrian Mints head engraver, Thomas Pesendorfer, the coin features eight signature orchestra instruments on its reverse and the Great Organ of Musikverein Concert Hall in Vienna, Austria on its obverse. The Vienna Philharmonic Gold Coin was first released in 1988 when a change in Austrian law allowed for the issue of gold coins for investment purposes. Despite numerous coin design ideas, music was eventually selected as the coins theme and what better way to do so than with the Vienna Philharmonic. Since its first release, the Austrian mint has gone on to sell multiple millions of these every year.
